E/W + S/R lock for 5 mins after driving off?

    Has anyone experienced the above?

In my '96 Slippervan, lately when I start up and drive off, none of the electric windows or the sunroof work, and the buttons do not light up.
However, after approx 5 mins they all start working fine...

I know the affected bits all run through the big double relay under the driver's dash, which I have opened, examined and can't see any obvious dry joints. I also know there's a 20amp thermofuse keeping a watch on things, but I have tried replacing it with a normal fuse, with no change in symptoms.

Just come out of 5-a-side footy and needed fresh air!!!

    Any BTFTs?

      HAR HAR.

Being a 2.0E (as opposed to one of those overcomplicated S2 things) I could ventilate using my rear rotary operated in case of annoying electrical failures (manual winder ) window.

Mine were intermittent and it turned out to be a dry joint in the relay as you previously suspected. Re-soldered the joint and it's worked faultlessly ever since. If the relay looks fine then either re-flow any joints you can or just fit another relay. If that doesn't work then it's something else... obviously!

What happens if when they are finally working you stop, turn off the car (maybe lock and unlock it) then restart and carry on driving?

If the same 5 min wait occurs, then I am stumped, but if everything carriers on working, then maybe it is heat related.

            Have you changed the relay?

            Cheers n

Sod's Law being what it is, when I returned to the car after work this evening, the windows worked fine. Stopped at a couple of places for stuff on my way home, and again no problems

I guess i'll take another look at the relay - a bit disinclined to fork out for another relay JIC. Getting wise (read poor) to my usual blind mechanic technique of throwing new bits at cars till they work.

Must get all those VR6 'spares' up on ebay sometime
