    Bonnet and lights

    Guys,

Is it much of a pain in the ar** to change the bonnet and bumper on my 1990 coupe to the bonnet with intergral grill and lights from a later model. Any poinyers would be great as I just want to freshen the car up a touch. It is having a respray next year so if I am going to change any bits before then is the obvious time to do it.

I am also looking to change the front bumper to that of an S2 or RS2 for an intercooler invasion.

Any help would rock my world at the moment.

    Cheers Aaron and Uncle Jack.

Wrong answer! You prefer the stock type 89 look, that's fine. But if one asks, is it easy to fit the B4 parts?

      Answer: yes.

        You'll need,
Bonnet, headlights (not the 80 ones with seperate indicators), the trim strips for underneath the lights and the middle slam panel with lock carrier. Pretty easy conversion.

... Or even cheaper, you can use the existing slam panel, T - piece, (just modify it with a file and drill to take the safety catch). You can also keep the existing strip underneath the headlamps, the B4 headlamps and bonnet fit perfectly. The strip under the headlamps is obviously 2 seperate pieces on the B4 cars, but with the bonnet shut, it's hard to tell the difference if you retain the original single piece item from the type 89.

Mine strip is one piece, exactly the same as my cq20v. I thought the two piece strips are on the later ellipsoid equiped cars, As i hacked off the inner mounts when I fitted my ellipsoids, to retain the single strip.

There seems to be three versions of the strip.
                1/ early one, straight across
2/ straight across, but stepped back between the headlights
3/ and the last two piece set up.

Seems like any will work, cool .

                  Hi

Im think of doing the same with my cq20v. Im sure someone at a meet reckoned that it's possible to get away with the original, larger B3 headlights with a B4 bonnet - although I wouldve thought they'd catch on the lip / grille of the bonnet, but the theory is that the new bonnet would fit ok and only cover part of the edge of the headlight. Sounds unlikley but has anyone actually tried this to rule it out in practice? Would be useful to run with the original lights whilst I saved up for elipsoides!

                  cheers

Yes Paul, I can confirm the B4 bonnet will fit with the original type 89 headlamps - mine was in that state till I took it off the road for its rebuild.
