my car is leaking from the rear somewhere. Looked in the weee cubby hole in the bottom right hand side of the boos to see it was full of water . DOH!!!

Suppose the good thing is tht the car is going back into the garage to get it sorted at no cost to me.

      S2driver,

I have the lights or boot seal problem too. It seems to me like the previous owner has chopped a 4inch section out of the seal by the lock mech. Is it the same on all the cars or has this been cut out? This could be the prob for me in the boot. In which case it is a new seal. Bummer

        Guys,

I have spent two hours trying to get the bloomin rear light leans off as it is leaking ( there is water pooling in the light). I got the light board of undid the 6 nuts and then it got really hard, the light seems to be stuck on with a white silicone type substance which has set like glue. Really solid, tried tapping with a hammer on the bolts etc. Could I get it to budge, could I bug***y.

Anyone got any ideas or tips to get the thing off before I drive the corner into a wall and replace the whole lot?

Also the other light does not appear to be leaking, but I have water entering and dripping all along the boot line. Would water come in throught the srews that hold the black trim on (the ones covered by the oval pop offs)?

        Cheers

I have a few days off work (till tues night) and want to get it sorted so I can start drying the car out. I am fed up of ice on the inside of the rear window!!!!!!

        Cheers

Aaron, it sounds like the lights have been glued on with silicone rubber, The only thing you could do is to use a stanley knife to cut between the lights and the seal. the lip seal round the boot lid has a small cust out just above the lock which is what you refer to I think.

I can't remember If the lights have 6 or eight nuts. there are two a long way forward / at the front of the lights. HTH
          good luck

[sharp intake of breath] I've never managed to get one off thats been stuck on with damn silicone without totally breaking it off. Can't offer any tips apart from maybe trying to run a blabe round the top first to get it started, but then you run the risk of damaging paintwork beneath.

              You're not a real builder/plumber/motor engineer !

You are meant to have a sharp intake of breath between your teeth and shaking your head side to side whilst looking serious.

the water leaks cause brake bulbs to blow and increase corrosion chances, thankfully the paint that would be damaged is hidden.

it's not an easy job but worth a try.

my special tip of the day is fishing wire / nylon thread.

Wrap it around a finger on each hand and use it as a rope saw. With enough perseverance it seems to get through silicone and is also excellent for getting off badges stuck on with double sided foam.

Do protect your fingers though or you'll slice them up too. Very paintwork friendly though unlike stanleyknives / screwdrivers......... still need to sort out my tailgate due to previous screwdriver butchery......

Right thats on the list for tomorow then If I fail I will return.

Any idea as to the water ingress further from the light. @ stickinsect, I was refering to the other piece that sits on the outside of the boot seal, it has four screws holding it in position which are coverd by oval shaped pop out things. Anyway to be on the safe side I have taken the screws out and siliconed around the thread and replaced them hopefully stop that if there was any (just worrying as water leaks in through the boot light AHHHHH the lock area. anyone know how to stop that then??????)

                  Cheers
