Papvas , I don't think the roof is strengthened any differently, it's just that there is a hole in it and there is a lip bent over on the roof edge, My brother in law is having an Opel Manta Steel sunroof fitted to his 1959 Alvis TD. 1500 euros sounds about right.
Yep, You need sunroof, motor and switch/panel and a few hours labour
You may find that the big metal tray that the whole sunroof assembly is mounted to is different between the metal and glass versions. The reason is the rails for the sunshade that slides back on the glass version. On my '90 CQ there are no such rails, so you wouldn't have a shade if you didn't also swap over the metal tray. I have most of the parts to convert my car, but I haven't undertaken the big project yet.

The sunroof models have improved strengthening versus the non-sunroof models. You only have to look at the workshop manuals detailing two different methods of removing the roof lining to see why.
The roof lining on a car without a sunroof needs the lining removed in strips so as not to ripple the roof line. This isn't necessary for sunroof models, the lining can be removed as one piece.
