    Glass sunroof

    Hello everyone,

I was looking on putting a glass sunroof in my RS2 sometime in the future. My car doesnt have anything yet,and since webasto is the supplier for Audi i placed a call on the Greek dealer from where i got a quote for a finished job of 1500euro(all parts included as well as roof sky, electrical connections, water drainage etc+work)

However i heard from someone here in greece that roof skies from audi are differently manufactured if a car is ordered with a sunroof rather than one without the sunroof. This means that the metal strenghtening of the roof is placed differently in these 2 options making an aftermarket sunroof impossible to place unless the roofs metal strenghtening bars are cut!!!

Do you have any knowledge of this? From pictures i have seen here and there, cars with the sunroof option have metal reinforcements placed further back on the sunroof. However i havent seen a roof of an avant without the sunroof option so cannot tell where the reinforcements are placed and why an aftermarket sunroof will compromise that.

Has anyone done this before?Do you have any input on this?
    cheers
    Vasilis

Personally i would not trust ANYONE to put an aftermarket sunroof on my car! I would live without it.

Also 1500 Euro's is a lof of money for a hole in the roof!

    Cheers,

    Steve.

I don't think it is a good idea. I think I am right in saying that the sunroof "roof" metalwork is completely different to a normal roof. It folds over where the sunroof fits flush and that would be hard to do well now that the car is built. IMO.

I doubt it will ever look as good as OEM and will ruin the resale value of the car.

        Cheers,

        Steve

The OEM sunroof that I have is a metal one and it slides back under the top skin of the roof, all very nice, but it reduces headroom by a vital 1inch or so. I would never suggest putting in an aftermarket 'roof though, the ones I've seen have always been obviously aftermarket, it'll no doubt leak and as Steve says above it'll probably harm the resale value...

ok guys you have prevented me from making such a move.Although webasto here gives me 1 year warranty, and has 0 returns for leaks and such, although having a car with a sunroof before i know how nice it is,i will keep the car as is...Maybe if i travel to europe at one point,i may be able to find an original RS2 chassis to bring home!hehehe
