Grille Mesh - interesting details ?

With so much discussion over grilles and their costs and me wanting a plain RS black mesh grille without spending I thought I would do some research.
Has anyone considered buying and cutting and shaping the materials available from these companies ?........I'm sure it's possible to match RS mesh or be completely unique. I've only just found the links so I have no idea how much for a sheet of the stuff, but they are pretty big and I guess cost quite a bit....I will call in the morning. Maybe someone on here has the skills to cut, shape and sell ?......OR have I got completely the wrong material !

If the expanded metal company link works you have to put your email to download the brochure...just a few secs.

The Expanded Metal Company is a leader and innovator in the development and manufacture of expanded metal mesh products, combining more than a century of industrial experience with cutting edge technical capabilities and advanced production processes.

Fine Mesh Metals are UK Suppliers of Industrial Mesh including: Expanded Mesh, Perforated Mesh, Walkway Mesh and Security Lathing. Custom sizes available.and panels.

When I researched using the mesh from the actual RS4 grille I was told that it is too small for the RS2 grille frame. Maybe the RS6 will clear it, not sure.

                RS2coupe,
im actually reffering more to the type and dimentions of the RS4 grill's holes rather than the actual grill fitting the RS2.So this brochure that Carl found has so many different types that it could turn out being difficult to find the nicest one!!Someone must take a look in person, and take pictures in order to make a choice!

Just spoken to Colin at Expanded metals....they make grilles for car manufacturers and was VERY helpful.....while I was on the phone he googled RS2 and 4 and made his best judgment as to a match....samples are in the post....the 2 styles he is talking about come in a 2.4 x 1.2 metre sheet and are £43 + vat + carriage per sheet.....galvanised tho, not painted.

paint is the least job.a good sprey will do tremendous job.
is that price for the grills cut to fit?or a large piece that we can make ourselves?

No, this is not RS2 mesh, it is Kamei mesh, but same principals apply. You can use aluminum rod, bend it to match shape of whereever you are going to put them in, cut mesh to fit the back side of the rod, JB Weld to the aluminum rod, and have it powder coated.

These lower grills on this modified S2 bumper were done that way. There are small L brackets riveted on the back side to the bumper, holes drilled and tapped, and small screws used to hold the grills to the bumper. The heads of the machine screw were ground down to make them smaller.

This way the grills matched the hood grill material.

depending on that picture i would like the grille's holes larger than that
