I have a Pearl White UR MB and I've plently experience of this! For a start, there is no "match" with the paint itself. Pearl White is a 3 stage paint process. 1. A base White coat is applied.2. The Pearl effect is added. (It's the application of the pearl effect that determins the shade) 3. Clear Coat is applied.

Good painter or not, it extremely difficult to guage the amount of pearl to apply to get a match on an adjacent panel. The only way I've achieved results in the past is to paint whole areas. For example, when I repaired the front wings, I had to paint the whole side of the car. New bonnet = blow into the tops of the wings an so on.

Generally, whole surface areas ie. whole sides/backs etc, as the light changes the effect anyway accross varying angles. I would be painting the whole rear of the car with a minor blow in at the corners.

    Good luck!

Before i joined the meat movers, I was in the refinishing trade for a number of years and i have had some nightmares with pearl effect. However i have also had some very close matches by using the colour chips provided by the paint manufactures. These give different variants of the same colour and then the tech can mix the closest variant. All i was saying is most painters might do this then paint the bumper, then check the match. If it is shibby then flick the rear quarters and boot. I ain't brain surgery!

Is indigo pearl blue also a 3 stage process? I basically want my front bumper done. I was told today i would have to get the front and rear bumper done otherwise it would look stupid.
