    window/door seals

    Greeting S2 lovers and abusers!

My 96 coupe has air blowing through my passanger door. The lound sound is coming from the trialngle seal where the mirror is located. It sounds like its the seal which seals the window in place.

Audi dealer tells me there are 3 diff types of seals? and to replace all on 1 door would cost around £300.

    can anyone help at all?

    yup,

Just replace the door seal if its shagged, it aint cheap tho even from vagparts. over £100

It takes about an hr to replace it yourself then you just need to adjust the window to suit.

Done this on one of mine and cut down the noise alot but not completely.

sounds complicated.. i hate them damb door pannels.. if im gonna spend £100 i might as well throw in extra £30 for fitting i think.

Which seal did you replace as there are 3 on the 1 window in total?

        Hi,

If you are getting wind noise, check that the rubber seal on the doorframe is seated properly as i had this on my passenger door seal and noticed a kink in it where the T section of rubber had come out of the metal retaining gap on the bodywork. Pushed this in with the help of a flat head screwdriver and .......silence again.

Check it before shelling out - you may not need new rubber afterall.

        HTH,

        David

Near where the triangular bit touches the door seal there is a door seal locating pip. This fits into hole on the body which has a plastic grommet in it. If the pip is broken, the door seal will not fit snugly and cause wind noise. I ended up drilling a hole in the seal and using a self-tapper to ensure affix it.

This can also cause water to leak in. I know............

The seal i replaced was the outer door seal that fits to the frame of the body, not the actual door.

                    Ski,

Where that bump is, lift the seal up and you should see where it is located into a metal runner round the door frame that looks like =========== (minus the gaps) and the bulge will be caused by the trim not being pushed into that properly, use a flathead screwdriver to push it back in and the bulge should go. Best way to see it is to pull the rubber away from the metal black strip which runs up the A pillar aound over the doors.

Removing the door trim isnt a difficult task. Once inside there are wedges at bottom front and back of the door which can be chnaged and adjusted to push window into seal more. And also adjustment at the top too, didnt need to do that on mine, window can also be moved forward and back in frame. Didnt wanna do that though.

                          you have jsut solved it..

that window was smashed.. so i had the guys come out fit new one.. was scratched so came out again and fitted, then went got it tinted, was scratch on tint so tinted again.. and end result wind..

are you refering to the 2 heavy metal wedges on the underneath of the door? that look like weights and fall down as soon as they are loosened?

so i just push them up?
