    Window getting stuck!

I've had a dodgy window for a few days (drivers side), basically it's sticking about 1/2 way up and needs a tug to help the motor out (and stop it burning out...) which is a pain in the *** with the temperature and no AC!! It's definitely catching against something (sounds metallic).

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced the same - is there a runner it could have slipped out of? I think it's catching against something as there's a few definitely new scratches on the window, but looking down inside I can't really see anything. Monday = no work day, so I'll take things to bits if anyone has BTDT and can tell me what to look for

    Cheers

Ross, IIRC the mechanism or "regulator" as I think it is called is not a serviceable item, so you will probably need a whole new one. I know this is the case on Golf's and i think the Audi Coupe is the same.

I would factor in getting a new regulator mate.

How's the car going? Is it run in yet and when are you getting it mapped?

    Cheers

Hmmm, you sound like you have some experience with this one Steve... car's run-in now fancy a visit some time? The window just worked no problems, would a knackered regulator be intermittent like that? I'll take a closer look tomorrow!

Seriously, I'm at 980miles and I figure that's 1000 rounded up so it'll do. I've plugged the WGFV in 30 miles ago, and progressively given it a litte bit more stick - it pulls so smooth, I'd say perhaps a hint more power but that could be the result of 2 months without distorting my memory... Off to work in a min and she'll get a good work-out to Basingstoke, still nothing sustained until I get this slop outta the engine and put some proper engine oil in, could just be paranoid though. Mechanic thought I was mental draining off the oil last time - it came out as clean as it went in

Remap will happen as soon as I get my turbo - hoped this would be pre-nurburgring but not looking like it. Probably a good idea It'll be mapped as soon as I get it to MRC after that... you gonna be at Castle Coombe on sunday?

      Cheers

Did you happen to solve this, I seem to have the same problem.

My car is sat in the drive with plastic plumb center bags covering the two inch gap.

        HELP ME PLEASE!

It might not be a 5 pot or an S2... but at least I have a 20v Turbo in my life again.

You need to take the door panel off, it is highly likely the regulator mechanism has jsut given up. I have not done it on my Coupe, but other VAG cars in have seen it is a case of replacing the whole mechanism as you usually cannot change individual parts and the cables etc are all in one unit.

          Good luck.

          Cheers,

            Ross/Kris,

The cable can be changed complete with the worm drive mech without resorting to a regulator change. Changing the faullty reg assy is much easier but more expensive to do of course.

From your description I would suggest that the bowden cable has a few wire strand broken free and the are obstructing the worm drive or pulleys. The cable will eventually snap and your window will descend to the bottom.

Not something you want to happen in the colder wetter seasons. Prevention as ever is better than cure.

Here's the part number for the drivers side : 895 837 726 B just in case.
NOTE: This is not a quiet a time consuming job to do, all that is need is good attention to detail and patience. LOTS of it!.

You may find that the grease in the worm drive mech has just dried out and only requires a relube. Worth checking before hand.

There are other posts on this problem if you run a search.

Hope this is of some help to you.

Have had the same problem as Ross and sorted it today. The problem was "the bowden cable has a few wire strand broken free and the are obstructing the worm drive" as Nuvo has stated. A pic to prove his words (phone pic, no acdc at home, cut out a piece of the pic).

I have changed the complete mech (w/o motor). I can confirm that it is possible to change the cable alone, you just need to have the correct one. I am not sure if it worths to - in my case the plastic wheel which rolls the cable had worn out "waves" and I guess it would become a problem sooner or later.

              The part number I used is 895 837 725 B (driver's door).
Nuvo has posted 895 837 726 B, I guess this is for UK drivers door?

I am glad to do this before the winter comes
