    Re-spray

    Hi Guys,

for a while now I've been thinking of re-spraying certain parts of my car (wing, bumper and door(s)) but ive always been put off as re-sprays are never perfect.

Well on my way into work a truck dropped a peice of wood which hit the lower part of my door, causing every kind of damage (dent, scratch and a scratch thats t-cuttable) so now im thinking even more of a re-spray.

Anyway, my questions is, If im going to respray such a large part of my car, is it best to go through audi so that the work is guaranteed? I dont want to be stuck with a crappy paint job from a garage that wont "fix" their own mistakes.

What are your opinions? anyway resprayed their car in the northwest that can recommend? Its midnight blue colour, so im guessing hard to match. (also, how much would it cost for a full car respray? (2k?))

Did they do your two tone grey re-spray?

Ive just been given a very rough quote from audi for re-spray of door, wing and bumper £400 + vat (they qquoted without seeing it so it a rough quote).

You'll find that even main stealers that have bodyshops would most likely farm the job out on a car of our vintage.

          I know ours does.

Can I hop onto Ski's thread? I need the same at some point - interested in milking any knowledge / experience on here too.

The quote was from a audi insured bodyshop. I think all audi use other company's.

A few years back I had a silver 80 quattro done through audi, at the time they used a VW dealer that did a greate job. When I went to pick it up they said the inspector was not happy with it and ordered for it to be done again.

I guess its best to stick with audi approved/insured bodyshops?

Just had a quote myself to sort the bottom of the passenger door, rear scuff on the bumper, stone chips and an all over polish to remove any crazed laquer, great price of £350 but my family have used the guy for years (and he is given constant work as my dad can't drive and has his car touched up every year!!!!!! and my mums too.

If I were doing it I would go to a highly recommend independent body shop. In my Area Audi farm their work to the local VW garage. I actually let them do my rear bumper twice and they did a very good job both times. (Don't ask )

IME A decent full respray is £1500 - £2000 unless you do the work yourself or know a very friendly sprayer.

                        Good luck.

                        Cheers,

I've just had a B3 Coupe quattro full respray. Cost £650, but that was me stripping the car down completely, and I'm putting it back together as well. Finish is excellent, like glass, even down to the sills.

My car has also had a respray recently. Not sure of the final cost, but having talked to the guy spraying it, we went for a top quality paint. This alone (2 litres) cost me £500 - that's without any work.
The whole job (roof not done), obviously windows out, but also sills came off for inspection and they were sealed for further protection. Lots of minor dents and rust bubbles to remove plus the side vent installed. All in will set me back between £2000 - £3000 - not including any new bits of trim etc I needed. SHe is looking very nice now though even if I say so myself. Just need the engine back now....
                            Hope this helps.

                              Hi Ski,

I can highly recommend this chap he has done some great work over the years on my mates Mondeo and many classic cars. He sprays mercs and all sorts.
