    HELP Needed ASAP

    Guys,

My passenger side door wont shut. Theres a little metal bit in the lock that gets depressed and then pops back up to keep the door shut. This little ****** is not popping back up. Is it a case of taking the door lock off with the allen key and try to fix it, or will it need a brand new lock? Anyone BTDT? need to get the locked sorted as parked on the street is not cool

Had the same problem on my drivers door a few weeks ago, had to cable tie the door shut.Bought a new lock from Audi, about £40 i think...probably cheaper at VAG parts tho. BTW i dont know if the mechanism dismantles or not.....

I've got almost the opposite with a lock that is very hard to unlock. I spray it with copious amounts of WD40. It helps for a while, but I'm going to replace the lock. I've already got one from VAG Parts. Just havn't had the time to fit it.

JubJub- Have u fitted the new lock yet? Simple case of just undoing the 2 allen bolts?

                ABS,

if you cannot fix it, you need the lock # 8G2 837 015A @ £24.30+vat and a new lock rod # 895 837 133C @ £1.01+vat. These things do fall apart internally a lot. You might be able to repair, if not drop me aline.

I had to change the driver side catch on mine. It had exactly the same problem as yours, Abs.

Its a bit fiddly to change but you dont have to take the door card off.
Two allen key bolts and a bit off gentle persuasion with a screwdriver, should only take about 15 mins.

Mine went about a year ago coming out of work and i drove home holding the door shut, you dont realise how heavy these doors are until u take a left hand bend while holding the drivers door shut:eek2: .
Easy to change though, took 20 mins

okay, Ive changed the lock for a new one. Good news is the door shuts. Bad news is it wont open from the inside only the outside. Problem is that the cable for the inside handle, doesnt seem to stay latched onto the rod seems to have excess travel when in rest postion which then makes the hook point travel too far out.

Also I didnt have to use the seperate connecting rod, was able to feed to old one into the oval hole thing.
Think i'll get it done at the servicing

                          Abs,

Sounds to me like you haven't got the cable clipped into the inside door handle properly. Just need to take the door card out again and move the clip where it fits into the door handle and it should fix it hopefully.

I have just had this prob too and had too drive home holding the door shut!!! The culprit was indeed a little spring in the mechanism. Had to order from local stealer for speed as need the car on the road again, robbing gits. Finding it harder each day to defend the behavior of my car to the missus. Whats the matter with these things, aren't they supposed to be well built?
