Sender unit seal

changed fuel pump in my avant at weekend
am I just doing something wrong with the rubber seal as try as I might the damn thing won't go in!
seems the seal has grown since taking it out. Can't get it far enough down to screw the retaining ring on
but changing the pump cured running fault so can't complain!

It is a pain but if you persevere it will go. I put some WD40 on mine then fit it to the tank ensuring that it is fully engaged the whole way around. Put a smidge of WD40 on the sender where it contacts the rubber seal. If you are concerned about using WD petrol also can help.
