  • Front bumper repairs

My S2 front bumper has got several hits on its 26 years lifespan. There is no holes or anything but it has cracked from here and there.

Tried to find post how the repair it properly but couldn't find any. So if anyone has done repairs to these (Pocan brand) Polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) bumpers I would much appreciate the help.

What is the best way to repair?

Welding? found some site that offers welding rods for PBT/PP plastics? But can you really do welding on these kind of bumpers?

Fiber glass? Does it stick to? Have red that there is PBT that is reinforced with fiber, but how is it with these bumpers?

Or something else? Any alternative ways to really fix those cracks for good?

    Thanks.

I once repaired an S2 bumper (15 years ago) with great success. I borrowed a squirtgun with a 2 komp "glue" from a body shop, then i cut a groove along the whole length of the cracks so they got a V shape. Then i filled in the groove with the glue and let it set ( was quick to harden) then i did the same on the rear side but i also reinforced the back with perforated sheet metal. I squirted out alot of glue and then put the sheetmetal over the glue and pressed down so the glue came up though the holes. Sanded the outside and painted it. Worked perfect! Very similar to the method shown in this video (he cuts a hole in the bumper and uses the same approach as a crack): https://www.google.com/search?q=repa...TF-8#kpvalbx=1

And with try and error it was for me. Tried welding the bumper with those PBT plastic sticks using heat gun and it seems to be working just fine.

Dunno yet.. Haven't had time to continue the repairs. But seems quite easy task to do with somewhat "proper" equipment.
