Anyone know the dimensions of the rivets required to refix the coupe A pillar trims after a bodges windscreen repair? seems my a pillar trims have about 2 rivets each holding them on
Anyone any pics or guides on how to reseal A pillars effectively after a poor windscreen replacement? I have the dreaded passenger footwell full of water.
I have recently bought teh car and it was the previous owner who had the screen replaced back in november. he has now moved abroad so i have no means of getting name of company that did screen etc.
they made a right botch job of it on closer inspection.......... chipped the paint off a pillars, scratched paint off just above windscreen etc.
break the window and get it replaced again, while the old glass is out, be sure to repair any damage to the leading edge of the roofline or it will bubble and rush BTDT.
Make sure when the new glass goes back in, ensure that they know that however many rivets are on each pillar, they rivet them all. If they dont it will just leak permanently.
Show them you know what ur talking about and hooefully they won't try and fob u off with a cr*ppy job.
Good luck....
P.S. I made autoglass in the uk refit and replace a windscreen 3 times until i was happy with it....2 previous times it hadn't sealed properly or positioned it right and the wind noise was terrible!
Well I can understand you wanting to do this yourself, without insurance to help you along, prepare for a bill of £500+ for fitting a Coupe screen BTDT, and it was a crap job too.
Get the rivets from a dealer or vagparts maybe?, part number is N 905 763 01

Are these rivets still available?
I had my windscreen replaced by the RAC in 2003, and they also only used about 2 rivets. I dread to think what mess my be underneath the windscreen. I hear de-galvanizing your body shell is also a speciality.
yep they seem to of done a good job of degalving the leading edge of my roof. I cant believe the previous owner who had the screen fitted let them get away with it. was only done in november but rust on the leading edge of the bonnet is quite apparent already!
its at times l;ike this i wish i had stuck with E30 BMW's. can change a windsceen on those on your own in under 10 mins
I bought some a fortnight ago from my local dealers, for my forthcoming windscreen replacement.
Sh**ing bricks is an understatement, especially as I've been through one before.

Are you replacing yours with your own fair hands Jas?? or getting a "specialist" to do it?
From what I've heard the coupe glass needs an "old timer" glass master technician to stand a chance of getting it right?
the guys at my work (all considerably older than myself, im 26) were saying that back in the 'good old days' windscreen fitters had to do apprenticeships that lasted years where as nowadays they let any old monkey have a crack at fitting one.
explains alot of the posts on here regarding dodgy windscreen fitting in the last few years

Me replace it? f3ck that for a game of soldiers . Replaced my old astra gte 16v screen years ago NEVER EVER again.
I'll be getting it done through insurance, but not sure where. Thats for a forthcoming post I suppose.
I'll travel to London if I have to.
I've bought the rivets, the top and bottom trim, so I can give them it to use, rather than they using some crappy old boolox like they did on my old 2.3e Coupe.
