  • A few rust spots

    Hi All,
I have a few rust spots on my S2 - though not huge, I'd like to stop them getting any worse.

Essentially these spots are centred in two specific areas - the front wheel arches and weirdly, just to the top of the windscreen - I'm assuming this must be something to do with a botched windscreen fitting sometime in the past....

I'm most concerned about the rust patches at the top of the windscreen as these seem more 'developed' - In fact I'm not sure if there isn't a rubber strip missing....

Anyone got any recommendations on the best way to halt the dreaded rust?

touch up with the proper colour, wait about a week for it to harden

Polish with rubbing compound the G3 then G10

I'm not saying this will be an invisible solution but it has achieved good results for me time and time agine and more importantly it lasts.

        quick note:

I'm restoring a mk1 golf (pics to follow), I took her back to bare metal and primed her with Hydrate 80 painted her in 2 pac primer and, due to moving house have not touched her in almost 3 years and she looks just the same as the day she was primed.

        Hydrate 80 rocks

And no I have no affiliation with bilt & hamber

i think audi's warranty was 10 years, as i tried this with an 8v coupe with only months to spare, but only to find that the panel that had started to rust had previously been repaired, which then invalidated the warranty!

I guess with mine being a '92 so roughly 15yrs - definately out of warranty . It's actually in pretty good nick considering the age. My other car (ahem... a ford) which is only 4 years old is looking far worse for wear.

                  Thanks for the advice Rich.

I'll start next week - weather permitting - will post pics of before/during and after. I'll probably start with the windshield item as I might be able to get away with glueing a small rubber strip if all goes pear-shaped
