    Wiring for heated windsceens

    Hi guys,

I am hoping to fit my heated windscreen very soon but I'm unsure on the best way to route the wires.

I can either take the wires on the inside of the screen straight under the dash but that would mean sealing the screen on top of the wires so that if it ever had to be removed then the wire would definitely be destroyed on removal or alternatively take the wires on the outside and under the plastic scuttle cover and in through the grommets on the bulks-head.

Any advice or how to's would be appreciated especially if you have one fitted already

    Thanks,
    Brian

    Where is your screen from?

I remember the wires on mine exited the inside of the screen inside of the edge where the bonding would seal.

I would 100% run the cables inside of the car.

It's a Ricky Evans screen, The fellow that will be fitting the screen thought it might be best to peel back the ribbon thats stuck to the glass to allow the wires to not interfere where the screen is bonded and it would mean the possibility of removing the glass leaving it and the wires intact.

Did you feed the wires under the dash as the scrren was lowered in place or remove the dash beforehand?

Mine is also a Ricky evens screen but I don't remember the wiring being an issue.

The dash was out on my car when I did mine.

You could pre install some cable up behind the dash so that it only needs joining once the screen is bonded in?

        Jase.

If its of any interest. The heating wire for the screen on our 1994 Range Rover are on the outside and join to a connector (left and right) located in the heater scuttle from the factory. Meaning (as you mentioned) that the screen could be removed without damaging them!

Yes that was the alternate method that was being considered, I was just unsure what was the best and most practical.
