Well dont I feel daft... Can anyone help with details of how to open the bonnet on an S2 when the cable is broken. I have removed the grill and can get it some way up but seems to be held in 3 places? I dont want to bend the bonnet as its in good condtion and Ill sell it

theres the centre catch but on either side near headlight area of slam panel theres two catches as well... if you look up theres a latch that when pushed in a direction opens those latches and the bonnet pops up abit until centre latch is pushed back.

i've got a picture somewhere of the underneith of the latch i think?

I had problems with the bonnet release cable when I first bought the S2 – ended up snapping the thing completely when I tried to fix it and reattach the grab handle!

As mentioned it is possible to get at the loop on the release rods that hold the springed bonnet catches in place. The Bowden cable goes through these loops on either side of the two catches and its where the little trumpet shaped bits locate on the cable, pulling them into the middle of the car - away from and so freeing the catches when the cable is pulled normally.

Initially I used a long bit of stiff wire with a hook fashioned on the end, poked though the grill to catch the eyelet and then give a good tug – very fiddly, need patience and a torch to spy it back under the slam panel just behind the top inner corner of the headlights, but it can be done!! The bonnet springs up, one side at a time and your in!

Once I’d got the thing open I ended up putting two long black cable ties through these eyelet / loops poking the ends strategically through the grill with the bonnet resting down but not fully shut. I ran with the cable ties for months if Im honest tillI got a replacement cable. They poked through the grill slightly but did the job!!

        Hope you get sorted!
