Whats the best method of painting the coupe door /wing/quarter lower rubber trims? can they be removed easily to paint?

The lower rubber can be removed for painting. You add a lot of, what we call Flex, in the states. I had mine painted 5 years ago and no pealing or cracking yet.

as we are on the subject, are the trims on the RS2 just normal S2 rubber trims and then painted or are they different P/N's?

No its not plastic primer, plastic primer is for rigid plastic. its called flex agent here to you add it to your paint mix @ about 25% from memory..

          Example:

          2 Pack Paint=

          4 parts paint
          1 parts thinner
          2 parts activator

For flexible rubber parts add 25% flex agent to volume of paint mixed.

          Hope it helps.....

Flexane - used on some aircraft leading edges (and good for toecaps), nice and shiny but also flexible.

I have had mine done twice, just to get them right........

The stuff you need is made by icr

Add it to the primer and then to the paint but it will change the colour of the paint if you use too much. HTH

They've gone up a bit since then.
I bought a driver and passenger door set (not including the smaller rear bits) from VAG parts recently. Cost £65ish delivered.
                    Made a massive difference.
I have a slightly bent set in my garage as Royal mail decided to change their shape. I've been holding on to them just incase Royal mail need to see them. That was months ago though.

WTF? Prices seem to vary by a huge amount
I bought both bottom door rubbers + the two small clips and both rear quarter rubbers last year (July/August time) for £47 all in.

                            Biriggsy,

RS2 ones are different and significantly more expensive. The notes I have from VAG parts from about 18 months back are:

                            s2 Fronts 19.38 each
                            Rears 16.17 each

                            RS2 Fronts 77.17 each
                            Rears 67.48 each

                            All prices excluding clips

All this talk about the rubber trim makes me ask....

why doesn't some one with the imagination & talent and knowledge just make them out of flex ible plastic or CF? It would be a bit more dear in price but the advantages of long life and durability would factor in to make it well worth the extra cash. No?
