    Leaking Avant!

OK OK so we know Avants aren't supposed to leak but mine does now.

Admittedly its just had its rear window replaced (thank you Bas##rds and a serious than you to RAC Autowindscreens) but I have just discovered that the lining panel to the tail gate is sopping wet.

I haven't had a chance to open it up...yet, but I'm hoping its just the pipe to the screen washer that's coming off or perforated rather than a leak.

The fluid 'smells' like the washer fluid I use but who knows.

I'm a little reluctant to start taking the tirm apart without a manual, does the Haynes one cover this type of thing?

The trim just pulls off and will just clip back on. You might have to remove the grab handle if I remember correctly, but its only a couple of screws.

Undo the two screws that hold the grab handle on and then you can pull of the trim. It's only clipped in as Sid says.

It's porbably the washer pipe into the motor. They are held on eith a little spring clip and if fit freezes it can pop off the motor.

I had to trim the end of mine down as it had split. It could also be the motor spindle. There is a tiny o-ring in the spindle that stops water running back into the motor when you use the rear jet. Mine is long gone so it leaks slightly into the tailgate trim.

I need to buy a new motor. Just haven't got round to it yet.

The tube to my screenwash bottle came detached (it's not a very good design!) and filled the panel and the rear of the boot with screen wash .

Mine's now secured with that good old standby, the cable tie

Finally had a look at that leak.

Its the washer feed pipe that has worn thro the rubber just below the washer spindle....
All that's holding it together is the plastic fibre weave in the pipe.

What's worse is that there is not enough slack to trim it back and refix.

Looks like the pipe is continuous from the washer bottle, is this so?
Any one spliced a new section onto the existing? or is full replacement the best option?

            Cheers.

              Michel,

Nip to a scrapyard and get a length of tube and some rubber joints from another car ( Audi 80 bonnet?) this will push on the shortened tubing. You could possibly dip the tube ends in rubber glue to make it more secure (superglue would be a bit excessive but would work), wouldn't like to get it off again though!
