    Door Alignment

Thought i'd have a go aligning the drivers door as over time it has sagged.

Adjusting the hinges seemed a fairly easy thing to do from prevoius write ups

    Advice

    One piece of advice

To adjust the door you will need a 12mm hex socket or 12mm allen key

I only had sizes up to 10mm

Halfrauds to the rescue - sometimes you just have to.

Congrats on getting yours sorted. Its uncanny that you posted this as I plan on looking at readjusting mine after my attempts last weekend.

It can be easy if you are not replacing the lower hinge and have never had to repair/replace the window regulator assembly. I can get the door to line up with the other panels. Changing both these items has fixed one set of problems and introduced another.

The problem for me arises when you have the window up as this seems knocks the alignment out so you need to adjust for this too in some way.

At the moment I have it aligned fairly well and have reduced the wind noise too,
The problem I have at the moment is the top left hand corner of the drivers side glass slightly touches the rubber door seal when closing the door, I've also noticed that after this point the glass seems to lift a few mm before mating properly with the seal.

I think that both hinges can be raised a fraction on the A-pillar to compensate?
Does anyone have any tips that has tackled this job? Rereading the link you posted I hope that my upper hinge isn't shot.

Dont know if it helps but I had to adjust the lock post on the inner pillar to get the door to close smoothly

Yep, tried that Theres just so many things to adjust and counter adjust once you've had the door/hinge/window off.

Once you have adjusted the inner hex nut, (small amounts) you do need re-insert the main bolt - tighten and test.

Long process but the only way I could check each adjustment

The method you describe is what I have been using. Do you happen to know if the hinge height can be adjusted at all?

IIRC there are 4 bolts inside the door on the hinge which are smaller than the holes in the door. I would suggest putting a jack under the door, slackening the bolts and gently lifting the door ( or lowering it) I think this should work.

Hi David, haven't seen you much on here of late. I had the same idea of raising the door with a jack. So you reckon the smaller 13mm bolts that attach the hinges to the door have a little room for adjustment. That could well be it.

I know these bolts are used to adjust the leading door edge in and out to aligned with the front wing.

The other thing I noticed is that the black triangle in the corner of the window cannot be raised to close the 2mm gap between itself and the seal despite adjusting the trianglular stop to there highest extent. So I reckon I need to raise them a little and then lower the regulator assembly a little too. Hopefully that will solve it.

Anymore hints and tips welcome! Any thoughts on why the window is lifting slightly as the door approaches the striker? Im thinking maybe just the upp hinge needs raising a touch to make evything parallel, seem like a reasonable suggestion?

The striker has been adjusted properly to bring the rear of the door slightly proud of the quarter panel to prevent wind noise. So I know that is not the issue here.

                    Thanks.

Not sure if you know this already, or it is any help, but the window adjusts too. If you have the door aligning correctly, you may need to adjust the window. I have never done it myself, but there is a way to do it once you have the door card off...

                      Cheers,

                      Steve.

Oh yes I'd forgotten about that. You can adjust the height at which the window stops.

Another possibility to consider thanks .

Returned to this today for a while. I've got it very close to where everything should be with the exception of the left of the corner glass just touching the side of the door seal. Most people would be happy with how it is just now.

The perfectionist in me wants to tweak it just that little bit more as I know it not 100%.
Its one of those jobs were you adjust one area then you need to adjust another to compensate for this adjustment and so on... So many variables.

Failing light stopped me this this evening so I plan on having another go tomorrow if the weather is dry and I can be bothered. It gets easier the more you work on it and learn how it all works together.

It takes time and lots of patience thats for sure.
