Doors wont stay open

Hi Guys,

Over the last year I have grown used to the doors never latching in the open position, and just using feet/knees to hold them open, but my GF has had enough!

How can I sort this? Everything seems to be there to hold the door open i.e. the bent bit of springy wire and the the notched plate that rotates to lock in.

It sounds like you need to replace the lower door hinge. Is this on both doors?

Yeah both doors

I'd guess that the rotating catches have worn are no longer able to hold the spring in place. You can remove the lower hinge if you support the entire door with a jack.

You need to loosen the two bolts on the upper hinge (at the door end) to allow you to raise the door enough to remove the bolt at the back of the lower hinge and to free the lower hinge from between door and the frame.

Let me know if that is the problem as if they are the same I have the hinges on the 20v i'm breaking atm so could get them off before it goes.

After having a look at the hinge, its appears that the spring is not man enough to hold the door open.

Acidburn.....Let me know what you have in mind for the bottom hinges. BTW what colour are they?
