My car should be coming back from the bodyshop in a week or so after a full re-spray in black. I was wondering what the detailing experts on here would recommend for my first polish/wax? and what to use to help build up protection?

All help is thanked for in advance
Chen, did you get the arches done? i remember you talking about extending the arches some months back. i did mine, can fit the 18"x 9" wheels easy and it looks very RS4 like.
I was told that depending on the paint, number of coats and the weather, it can take up to 6 weeks for paint to cure completely.
Could you imagine washing the car and all of the paint pouring off it, all canonball run esque (countach).

I had the side of my other car resprayed a few weeks back and was told to leave it completely. I've heard that it takes several weeks for the paint to truly cure.
If the car gets really dirty over the coming weeks then i guess it wouldn't hurt to really gently wash it with a shampoo with plenty of lather. Certainly don't let any sort of high pressure water come near it though.
I have read both. If it has been baked it certainly won't ever run off or be damaged, but you need to let the solvents release from the paint, so it is best not to use sealants or waxes for the fist few weeks months. That said I have known people use a carnuba wax with no problems also...
If it were me, I think I would carefully wash the car for the first month and then fully prep and seal the paint after that.
(Don't forget factory painted cars are covered in transport wax as soon as they are finished....)
Cheers,
Steve.

My arches are being done but only very slightly to accomodate my wheels, a guy near me is doing all the paint / welding. I've known him for years so am confident he will do a good job, plus he now works on porsche/ferrari/maserati etc. Still allgood things ciome at a price. His workshop is closing shortly so I don't think he will be doing any more. I wasn't expecting to be told to leave it so long? glad I asked saved my self some hard work
