Key turns off the alrm but door button does not pop up nor does the lock release!
What broke? Plastic part PN#(connecting piece) 29 8D0837821 or (rotary fastener) 893837276A ?? Which of the 2 are the weakest part in the assembly?
Hi. The weakest part is neither of the parts you list. It is the chrome latching assembly mounted at the edge of each door that fails. There is a little spring assembly that snaps internally. In my experience at any rate that was the root cause.
Does the door shut completely, or does it catch on the striker?
In fact the door is completely shut. It's when I'm trying too unlock the door is when I realized something was wrong! When I insert the key and turn the door knob stays down and the key just turns with no resistance and the lock does not dis-engage and release.
yeah there is a plastic part which can fail (did on mine years ago on the drivers-side) which connects the rod to the lock assembly IIRC Cheap part but a PITA to get at and change, cost me something like £115 for a stealer to do it (long before i started doing anything on the S2 myself so would reckon that equated to about 1-1.5hrs labour charge plus a part for a couple of quid
In that case, I would suspect 893 837 171 or 8D0 837 821 or even 893 837 821 A. Most likely to be the one I hightlighted in bold I think. It may even just have popped off the rod and require minor readjustment.
