    Windscreen MOT Question?

    HI Gents,

Can any MOT testers or experienced persons, let me know if this is an MOT failure?

It is a fine 3 - 4" crack on the lower passenger side. (Obvious from the pics). I don't really want to have to replace the windscreen if I don't have to, and as the Nurburgring trip is 2 weeks after my MOT, I need to get organised.

    Thanks,

    Steve.

That air vent doesn't look OEM to me Steve - it looks more like a tweeter .

The crack looks like it's gone into the swept area, so if it's more than 40mm it should fail.

You could be cheeky and see if you get away with fitting a shorter passenger side blade .

A * Damage larger than 10mm will fail in the drivers line of vision.
B * Damage larger than 40mm will fail in the rest of the swept area.

Looks like a fail, unless your tester is a friendly sort who would trust you to do it later.
IMHO though, it'll get worse Steve, before you know it it'll be across the screen.
After getting mine done last year as you know, I don't envy you one bit. Nerve wrenching to say the least.

            Good luck.

Thanks Guys, sort of the answer I was expecting.

I am going to take the day off work when he comes to do it and make I personally buy all the rivets and correct drills etc to enable the job to be done properly.

              Fingers crossed.

              Cheers,

              Steve.

I'm tempted to suggest - measure from the edge of the wiper-swept area - if the crack extends less than 40mm into the swept area it will still be a pass, even if the length of the entire crack is more.

I'm also tempted to offer, moved the tax disc holder across to cover it. And nip the end of the wiper off!!!

But that crack will get worse for sure...

Thanks Martin. I am usually very straight with my MOT man, and he is with me. I was going to pop in and ask him if he will fail it before I book up. I am 99% sure it won't fail on anything else, it has done less than 4000 miles since last year...

Thanks for the advice. I will have a measure up and see.

                        Cheers,

                        Steve.

i'd get it done Steve, last thing you want is to be blasting down the autobahn and have it suddenly shoot across the window!!!

Tell them when you book it thats it's a show car and that you don't expect any damage or marks from their work, those a pillars could be looking worse for wear otherwise

                          Good luck!
