My S2 has developed a problem recently where the door catches dont fully close properly and it will just close to the first click and not the second where the door shuts properly.
Is there anyway of freeing them up/sorting them out or do I need a new door catch?
Ive been told they were a weak point on the Coupes and Cabrio's over the years.
You can remove the door lock on the edge of the door , remove the rubber cover to reveal the mechanism. Give the moving parts a spray with silicon grease. You can then test the release mechanisms in your hands before refitting it.
The probably is the latch doesn't full return. Look at the other side for a comparison.
Occasionally, there is a little spring that breaks inside. Replacing the mechanism is recommended if this happens is dissembling them is far from easy.
Or, as Andy says, the striker plate me have dropped and nee readjusting.
new ones aren't cheap, might be a good idea to have a look in a scrapper for a couple of spares, if they break you can't lock the car, i ended up having to buy a new one and tape the passenger door up for 3 days
Greg, I've have had this problem on the a6 passenger door, it either doesnt shut or bounces off the striker onto the first catch.
Make sure you use a dry lube otherwise it seems to get worse in cold weather if the mechanism sticks...Its a real PITA though
