A couple of questions for ya,

Is this a styling part only or is it considerably lighter than the stock hood?
As someone else questioned, is that the stock steel sub-structure behind a new carbon skin?
                Mass?
Pre-preg, wet lay-up or adhesive transfer?

Stock hood is around 20kg. I figure a wet lay-up with integral mountings should be around 6 to 10kg and prepreg could be from 1.5kg to about 4kg, all depending on how flimsy or expensive you want to make it.

                Cheers,

its not the steel frame....its fiberglass. it weighs approx. 15.5 pounds (a shade over 7kg) without the grille (so like 17lb max - 7.7kg - with the grille). so id say thats a considerable weight savings (almost 30 pounds if a stock hood does weigh 20kg). and it looks the part, too

its made by fiber images in california. i believe they use a wet lay-up.

these were a custom run of about 15 hoods they made for us. we sent them a brand new hood to make a mould. i think mine was the 4th or 5th they made. ours cost $550, since it was part of the group buy. not sure what they will sell it for outside of the group purchase. shipping overseas might be quite a pain, unless a bunch of you got a group buy and had them all crated over at once.

more pics to follow in the next couple days, thanks for the compliments

WOW!!! Thatis very cheap and very light too...impressive. Anyone got the price of a crate to be shipped from the US? We could get the front wings done at the same time.

                      Yup,

I can advise that a small crate full of these will NOT cost much per hood!! and how tempted am I??

                      BUT....

                      1. Its WAY to sexy for my slipper mobile ;-)
                      2. do you paint it or not? what a hard decision to have to make....
                      3. I would consider having it vented some how to get rid of as much engine bay heat as possible, every reduction helps!
                      4. That is VERY light and I love it :-)

                      7. Sod it, I have a credit card

Paint it. Otherwise it will look like some ricer from the Farce and the Farciest. I would only buy it for its contribution to lightening the front end of the car.

I totally agree, we take the piss out of ricers at every opportunity and you are considering a Carbon Fibre bonnet and NOT painting it! I agree it would look sexy, but all the kids have done it already with the carbon fibre film.....
