LOA9 is the OEM paint code and apparently talking to a specialist very recently there are 5 shades registered.

I think any paint specialist will be able to get it though not sure if is premixed or not. If you are doing the whole car then it should be fine to make enough to cover the car and maybe keep some to one side in case.

    Cheers

from what i have sprayed on mine,

Its A 3 stage pearl effect. The more pearl you use the greyer the white goes. Its very hard to match.

looking forward to trying to get a matching roof from a respray of that panel only

Apparently, this guy who I was talking to about getting mine done with (been in business over 25yrs and does nothing but paint for porsches, lotus etc) said he'd spoken to ICI paint to understand how to match this specific colour and they suggested using an old panel and spraying in blocks to see how many passes are required to match up. That goes for the paint and also the lacquer as these days lacquers are water not spirit based and its hard to get the same effect.

          Hope that helps

Interesting thing my painter told me was that due to some EU or environment rules the paint has to be water based, however the same rule does not apply to the industrial painting industry so what he does is to get the same color but in "industrial paint package" and thus get around that rule.
And the paint manufacturers know about this so therefor they make the same paints for industrial paint the same way as when they were available as spirited car paint.

good to know James...where did you get it from again as I might have a go at doing the slam panels on mine to see what they look like. Trying not to talk myself into a £4.5k windows out respray in LOA9

There is only 1 pearl loa9 It is a 2 pac paint that requires the depth of color by the amount of both base and laquer put on.

You will not get pearl LOA9 in a water based paint. It will not be cheap either

Yeah Amanda, thats correct, one code for LOA9 but there are 5 versions of the base colour apparently. Thats not uncommon, the aluminium silver on the A6 we have is running at something like 14 swatches of the same code. There are just minor variations in colour due to the batching. One guy I spoke to a while back said there was more than 20 versions of one colour for a VW golf

An you're right on cost......roof alone was £115 for paint in my quote, remaining £630 was the labour, corrosion prep etc

Still, the only person who was prepared to guarantee the rust will not return and as this is the 2nd time I am having the roof done, I'm happy for it to be the last

There is only 1 base coat as well. I know because I have had my pearl done and as far as I am aware there is only 1 company where you will get 2 pac paint and 2 pac lacquer from in the U.K but there is a catch to it You have to be registered as a classic car restorer to be able to get it I won't tell you what it cost me in just paint alone to have mine done but there are 4 figs in the bill and that was before anything else was added

This is what happens when you put water based paint with a cellulose car....... alpine white metallic!

And this is what the car looks like when you use the proper stuff!
