    Scabby back arches.

Finally got around to having a look at the rust patches on the back arches of the avant, (where it meets the bumper) thanks to Audi and the miracle of galvanizing, the metal is not as badly rusted as you would think looking at the bubbled paint.

I used to do a bit of spraying when I first left school and was pretty decent at it, but I'm out of touch with the products on the market at the mo, so could do with a bit of advice on which to use.

I'll need something to kill the rust, Ive seen a product in Hal frauds, a gel, that claims to remove the rust completely back to bare metal, is this possible, or am I better using something that turns the rust into a workable surface?

I could rub it down to bare metal, but the paint is about 2mm thick on the arches- no wonder they're so bloody heavy! So it would then need some filler, I've got access to Belzona (chemical metal) at work, can I use this to sort any surface imprfections and then finish with surface putty or will the Belzona react with the other products?

Finally, I've got some seriously diferent shades of Laser Red going on at the moment, can anyone recommend something to bring it back in to line or the new paint is going to look a proper cats ****!

    Cheers Lads, Dave.

That looks like good stuff, £12 for a kilo so cheap as well, thanks for the advice Fat80.

Anyone got any ideas on what to use to bring the paint back up to the original colour?

Are you talking polishes? If so, step into my world!

I use the Menzerna Range via Porter Cable Random Orbital.

Let me know if you want any further info. (There is quite a lot already in the Detailing forum on here...)

        Cheers,
