    Central Locking Glitch

Central locking / door lock issue.

Thanks in advance – I’m trying to understand the problem before I ‘open up the patient’. I’ve searched the archive and there are lots of variations of central locking problems but I can’t find a definite answer to mine. It’s a 1994 ABY coupe without remote locking (and without immobiliser if that matters). There’s only a problem from the driver’s door lock side, operation of the passenger side lock is normal.

    PROBLEM :-

Locking: When the driver’s side lock is locked, both doors do lock, and the alarm is activated normally.

Unlocking: When an attempt to unlock the doors from the drivers side is made, the drivers door unlocks but the passenger side door does not unlock - the indicator ‘stalk’ on the passenger side remains ‘down’. If the driver’s door is then opened the alarm goes off. I have taken to unlocking the car always from the passenger side which is annoying. At first this problem was intermittent but it has worsened and is now all the time.
The only other thing to say is that lifting the drivers door handle from outside has become stiff – variably so. To be honest pulling the inside door handle also feels different. Whether this is unrelated to the central locking problem I dunno.

My uneducated thoughts are that there could be a microswitch gone in the driver’s door (is there one that deactivates the alarm and sends a signal to the central locking to open the passenger door when the key is turned counter-clockwise?)

Any advice will be warmly welcomed on diagnosis and 'corrective surgery'.

    Thanks

        central locking glitch

Following a bit of research I decided that instead of a new microswitch at >£50 I could get one of these aftermarket keyless entry kits.

I guess that’s the way I’ll go. I’d like a flip key fob like the later VAG ones.
Anyone any positive or negative info about these Rightclick units?

        Thanks
