    I checked the drainage channels in the sunroof today, and they are definatly not blocked. i also pulled off a trim under the glove box that revealed some electrical components, and it was completely dry.

    My last guess would be the rubber seal around the windscreen as this has expanded and has left a gap on the passenger side funnily enough.

    I'm going to have a look at what can be done as cheap as poss for this rubber seal to be fixed/ re-newed.

    2.3 10v Quattro project so far: Bought for £400, lowering springs.

      I have a small but potentially important update on my leaky Coupe saga...

      During the recent cold snap I had to fire the old girl up to test out an ECU... when I was in there I couldn't help notice the ice that had formed inside the car - right at the sunroof seal on the drivers side. It hadn't been raining the past few weeks and the car was otherwise dry.

      So yesterday it was thawed and dry enough to whazz some creeping crack cure (courtesy of Captain Tolley - available from FROSTs) and throughout todays rain I seem to have a dry roof.... It might not be completely watertight but looks like it might get me back on the road while I concentrate on rebuilding the broken red car. Previously the drivers seat got so wet after rainfall that it was impossible to drive the damn thing.

      The curious water leaks that used to come down the A-pillar have stopped... Maybe the cold weather is contributing to that but my logic would have been that meant shrunken seals ==> larger gaps ==> more water ingress but that doesn't appear to be the case.

            I applied the sealer (really thin stuff that creeps into cracks then sets) from outside the car just by running it around the rubber seal at the edge of the sunroof. Only had enough to do the drivers side but thats where it was getting in overhead. I had previously looked here of course but didn't suspect anything - it was only when I saw the ice that I was convinced.

            I think with the car sitting outside for much of its life the sunroof seal has hardened or dozed over the years - I'll have to renew it of course. I'm still a bit perplexed as to how nothing is creeping in past the A-pillar door seal now - unless the cold weather has done something magic to the sealer goo I applied some months ago.

              Right then - forget the sunroof seal... A good dose of heavy rain two nights ago proved that was all rubbish.

              But today I finally got a few quality hours of dry working time to attempt the job properly. I removed the door seal and set about trying to see from 1st principles how so much water was getting in. I had previously injected some 'gutter sealant' in round the door seal in the hope of a quick fix but if anything it became worse.

              1st job was to remove the sealant - I did this with plastic tools before I discovered that POR15 solvent did a brilliant job of lifting the remnants. I then discovered that TWO rivets in the door trim strip were loose - so loose they just fell out when touched with a screwdriver. I was lucky and had some right size rivets to hand to repair those.

              I gave the door seal area a really good clean before fitting a new seal - well it was 2nd hand as gifted by a forum hero from Skye - this one was dated 1999 but fitted perfectly... I started at the top left corner and worked my way along the top and gradually working it in nice and snug until it felt right.

              Door closed and out with the hose... Delighted to see that what used to be four good leaks reduced to one very slight leak at the A-pillar... the original leak.

              I adjusted the seal a bit round the A-pillar area but it still wasnt watertight... It was doing that trick of squeezing between the seal on A-pillar, down the door where it joins the seal again and creeps in at the bottom of A-pillar.

              The rubber triangle seal on the door is looking a bit tired so I'm figuring that is the problem if things aren't watertight here. Then I had a brainwave and sliced a section out of the old seal - fashioned into shape to slot into the A-pillar area so as to create a tighter seal to the door triangle with the door closed... Impossible to see this unless really looking for it.

              Another few good soaks with the hose at full mains pressure resulted in zero water ingress so I think - I hope - that it is finally solved.

              Pics to follow when I get them off the phone.

                Is your car still dry Paul?

                I have a realy nasty leak on the lefthand side, where I sit. Is becomming a pool now, it's quit a lot of water.So I really want to fix that problem. I suspect to have the same a-pillar problem, so I am curious if your solution, with the extra rubber, did the strick.

                  I had the same problem.
                  Found 3 things:
                  - 1 the seal around the bonnet releasecable wasn't watertight (sicoflex solved this);
                  - 2 the big drainhole next to the fusebox in the "wheelweld" was blocked with some sticky stuff (took this out);
                  - 3 At the A-pillar water ran allong the A-pillar somewhere behind the seal to gather on a smal flat surface and then run to the inside of the car. I put a small tube in the horizontal part behind the tiangle part to let water out to the outside of the car i.s.o it running to the inside of the car.

                  I did all this in januari.
                  Since then the car seems dry again. I put the interior mats back in and am even concidering putting the dampening mats back in.....

                    On my RS2 water was getting in where bonnet pull cable disappears in engine bay, and into car.
                    Turned out grommet was missing.

                        My car develops a leak in the front drivers side door pocket, could this be the door seal?

                        Also does anyone know where I can find the plastic/rubber seals that run along the bottom of the door/rear wing (forgotten is correct name), mine's peeling off.
