I really fail to see the point in removing the procten system unless you run a stripped out track car.
Procoten only works in a front ender but that's when your most likely to become intimate with the steering wheel.
Well, pulling the engine back into the tunnel will total the car, as my self and 4wheeldrifter read on a web site that is now down and i can not find the info any where. This can happen at 5mph for example.
So if like a few of us you have spent 10K + on your engine and running gear you really dont want that to happen.

My plan for the car is to improve the weight distribution as much as I can without detracting for the comfort level and practicality too much, so the carpet and interior trim will be staying but some sound insulation will be going as will anything else I can get shot of. It's going to be a weekend and track day toy.
Loads of performance cars from the same era as the 3B S2 have no airbags or Procon ten equivalent, ie Corrados, Golfs and E30 BxWs ect. And having owned and driven many cars like this I have no qualms about losing the marginal extra safety the system provides.

After being in a head on collision with a drunk driver on a bit of road I used everyday I wouldnt bother with removing a few KG of wires unless it was a track car with a cage.
I'm lucky Mk3 golf that i was in Vs a 740 volvo.
Will a few kg really buy you a massive amount of time mid bend or straight?
Why not buy a set of 888's or go on a diet.
Dont mean to be a kill joy but it happens..

Sorry to hear about your smash, but I don't quite get your point as Mk III Golfs don't have a Procon like system, I guess it could have had an airbag though?
Like I've said above loads of comparable vehicles have no such safety systems and it never bothered me with either of my Corrados both VR6 and G60 or my old KV Coupe.
As Stiglet pointed out the majority of smashes are either side swipes or back enders, and in the few collisions I've been involved in I've always managed to avoid being hit head on by aiming for the hedge. I do most my S2 driving on the quite roads of rural Mid Wales where's there's normally plenty run off area. However I do concede that in a head on it would be better to have it rather than not, and I may not always be able to take aversive action it time.
This exercise is more about weight distribution than over all weight loss so every bit I can shave off the front will add up and help,
I have a set of very very light magnesium alloy track wheels fitted with T1R's which are by no means heavy, 888's next time though
I'm 6' tall and weigh 13 stone, and as it happens I'm on diet and have started fitness/weight training again after being a lazy sod for the past couple of years But I'm never going to be much more than half a stone lighter than I am now though, unless I become Bulimic or something.

lol na just pionting out that for a road car a little saftey hence weight of the procon might pay off.. as when it comes to avoiding stuff.. well cant do much on a blind bend can you oops there a car infront of me ..
Well I'm 6ft 3 and 16 1/2 stone so i have lots of room for improvement
I cant really start preaching though I ride a Gsxr750 not the safest mode of transport
No worries mate, I used to ride bikes as well, great fun but other road users terrified me!!
As you say not much you could do on a totally blind corner, but there again a tree could fall on your car. After all live is just one big game of chance.

I must say when I came up to yours the roads are a hell of a lot better than englands roads (well apart from that massive hill I drove down and cooked the brakes )

Yep, I count my self very lucky to live where I do, Top gear used to shoot quite a few of their roads tests a stone throw away from where I live.
I went down to Essex on Sunday to pick a car with a mate, once we got of the motorway the roads were pants!!!

For all those worried abut the car sustaining more damage in a crash because of the Procon, am I right in thinking it works when the gearbox (hence engine) is pushed back, so the cables are tensioned etc etc.
Now, I dunno about everyone else, but if I crashed badly enough that the gearbox and engine had been dislodged then i would have far bigger problems to think about than the fact that the steering wheel and peddles are not where they should be! Or have I got this worng?
Indeed, and thi s highlights issues with advancing saftey measures, all of which add weight to a car, but I bet a full set of airbags weigh less than procon 10..
Apparantly with the introduction of airbags across the UK accident investigators and surgeons were curious about the apparent sudden increase in bad foot and ankle injuries, the answer was forthcoming, there were not more foot injuries as a result of airbag deployment..... previously the injured person was dead so foot injuries went 'unnoticed'.
I 'd rather carry the extra weight............ but I can fully understand were some of you are coming from !
I have just had a whole lot of brackets and stuff sand blasted including the big procon ten corner brackets in the engine bay. I was going to leave it all out but I was wondering if those brackets might actually help as reinforcement for high powered s2's being bolted up in the corners of the chassis rail and firewall?

I dont think they would stop the chassis legs moving.
