    Canards/Dive Planes/Whiskers

Hi, has anyone considered fitting these little carbon whiskers to the front of their car?

I put a set on the front of my Caterham and they worked really well creating more down force at the front end and more turn in.

My RS2 is a completely different beast and I probably wont be taking it on the track but as I am having some bodywork done to the car I thought that I could add these to the front bumper while I'm at it...

    Any thoughts appreciated!

    Cheers

The Caterham weighs as much as a small house brick and has the aerodynamic properties to match. Small winglets could therefore make a difference to the front grip for initial turn in.

The RS2 weighs as much as a small country but is fairly aerodynamic. The lack of turn in is more likely to be due to the fact that there is a large lump of pig-iron suspended between the headlights. Small winglets will not make a blind bit of difference except to make a motoring icon look considerably more Chavish

        WALK AWAY FROM THE CHAVLETS!!!!

Mmm, that's what I thought...after persuasion! I was inspired by seeing a GT40 with a small set on at Goodwood on Saturday. Again different car/layout, but did much reading on the interweb last night and apparentley these winglets are suprisingly effective at creating downforce as well as pushing air upwards down the side of the car and preventing it from disappearing underneath which potentially causes air disruption or lift at speed. I'd be interested to test them on the track particulalry with all the spare time I dont have at the moment!

Leave the poor little RS2 alone. If it needed winglets, Porsche would have put them on!

              Cheers,

Have a look at the thread I did about the Audi 80 Competition front spoiler here. That's available through Aelred. Looks pretty neat and tidy...

Dive planes - a very high drag way of generating downforce.
