RS2 Avant boot lid water leak

Yep to join in with others its' taken to the boot lid filling with water ( i can't find a thread for the Avant).
Now the odd thing is it's only the boot lid then as the water wells up it runs out somehow so the boot is dry, unless you leave something resting against the carpet on the boot lid.
Has anyone else had this and found the problem or am I going to have to get in the boot with the trim off and get the memsaab to aim the hose.
By the way the rain this far west comes in like a pressure washer straight at the boot.
    Any ideas ?
    Cheers

if its coming in through the tailgate i would hazard a guess it's the seals around the lights?
in my line of work i see this kind of thing all too often

Due to the fact that you're in Shetland (much the same weather as west Cornwall I suspect) I'm inclined to go with your suggestion as being a possible cause, I've noticed that the RS2 refector thingy between the lights is looking a bit damp so I'll start on them.
          Cheers all

i had a similar problem. couldnt find where the water was coming in from, but on the top corners of the boot lid where the glass meets the metal frame there is a tiny hole there. It seemed to me that water was coming through there and going through the column, then down towards the lights area and eventually damping the inner cover of the boot lid.

I closed these areas with silicone and also took off the boot lid's drain caps(2 one on each side).

I also used an old cloth to accumulate all water, but apparently it has remained dry ever since. so i would assume that those small holes were causing all the problem.

                Hey T,

When it went into the bodyshop for the bumper scrape I asked if they'd also remove and refit the tailgate reflector bar which had so much condensation I had to suspect it as the culprit. They said it was on too tight and they'd break it taking it off. So I went back to Plan A which was to open the tailgate slowly and watch the water drain out into the gutters. If I opened it fully straight away, water would run into the boot leaving the left rear of the boot carpet wet. It had happened enough to discolour the soundproofing.

The scrape was on the right rear, so if it's damp on the right check the right rear light cluster is sitting correctly as it was replaced and might benefit from an inspection.

Alternatively, have you considered praying for a long dry summer?

Also seal around the rear lock. Mine leaked there. Spotted it early. Another source is the rear wash/wiper. Remove the two srews & unclip the inner carpeted fitting. Check the pipe to the rear washer is on tight. If in doubt use two zip ties.

There is no water in the boot just the boot lid I'll strip it and give it a squirt!

Yep I know. The washer leaks into the bootlid behind the lights.
