    Jeffer,

    you'll be wanting:
895 945 217A for the left hand one
    and
895 945 218A for the right hand one

Bulb holders are the same as Euro ones.

I was going to ask this - these are the ones that have completely red indicators? Do they flash red? Do we need to put in amber bulbs?

And the biggie - HOW MUCH?

I remember on my 2.2E coupe trying to remove the rear lights but the black silicon/gunk was that hard I thought I would break the lights - how do we remove them?

        Doug,

they are a bit pricey, even from us! they are £67.02+vat each. I would think that they DO flash red for sure! I've not seen these 'in real life' but I don't think putting an orange bulb in would work, it'll still flash pretty much a red colour.... beside the orange bulbs, the pins on the bulb are offset and won't easily fit a regular bulb holder. You CAN file off the offset pin on the orange bulb base, but I still reckon you'll have colour problems.

That's two possible BIG mot problem areas....

One other thing to also consider.... I dont think that the US spec lights have fog lights!!!! Maybe one of our US forum guys can confirm this? Peter? Josh??

The bulb holders on USA and Euro Coupes is identical so you know the lights will fit and the bulb holder isn't a problem, maybe that also means the fog light could be worked around also, as I bet the US spec lights are just blanked off with a snap out blank covering the hole where the fog lbulb would go. Thats one of the real easy mods to get two rear fogs lights on the S2! just snap out the blanking bit of plastic, buy a bulb holder and bulb and away you go, two fogs!! the wiring is already there to the second fog! just plug in and go! did mine ages ago.

You just have to get that black sealing cord off by what ever means it takes Doug..... no easy way round that.

Here's an interesting point though.... I've been told by a very reliable source that the S2 Avant all red rear lights are a direct swap with the Audi 80 saloons!!! wierd! but true! I think the Coupe rear lights are bigger than the Avants arn't they?? carn't say I've relly looked that close? If they are the same size..... problem sorted!! use the S2 Avant lights :-), not holding my breath on that one though but worth a look.

I reckon its best to get some input from our US forum cousins, they could whip out the turn signal bulb and see what is inside the rear lamp, could a orange bulb be used to make it flash orange??? or, would an orange bulb then through a red rear light, flash a pink colour?

hope this helps a bit guys...

I was looking for some lights for my avant a while back (water in one of them) and was under the impression that the avant rears and saloon rears were different.

          Could be wrong though

A cheap way of getting red rear lights. Not sure of the quality of the finished article though

I stuck a orange indicator bulb in the rear light socket to see how orange it would look - I was going to take a picture but there is no point as it was just a duller red

How would we get round this in this country?

The B4 Avant outer rear lamps are the same profile / fitting as the type 89 80 / 90 sedan, apart from being red. Doug, to achieve amber in red lamps, you need to use a yellow filter. Best bet is to find a broken outer lamp from a type B4 80, and remove the indicator filter (it looks green) and bond it to your bulb recess. You may have to seperate the US spec lens from main body to do this, but make sure you can seperate your lens from the main lamp body without breaking it before trying! All you'll need to do finaly is bond the whole assembly carefully together on completion.

Cheers vagsport - so does green and red make amber?

I might try and get a green bulb or paint a bulb green and see if this comes through more amber then - sounds easier trying this, than splitting the reflector from the light assembly.

I thought yellow and red made amber, I guess that filter is more yellow than green... ops:
