could i remove the headlining first, then just drop the whole thing without unbolting the parts above? it should work..

i guess the headlining is bolted where the roof-lightning and handels are? and at the sun-screens up front?

To remove the headlining you need take the sun visors off as well as the sunroof / light control pannel, then you need to remove the A,B, and C post trims, also a piece of trim on the inside top of the rear hatch and one around the hole for the sunroof. Once you have done this the headlining unpeals from a double sided sticky patch on the inside of the roof it's self, this is quite tricky. Start carefully from the back and have a friend help you.

Once the headlining is out it's obvious how the sunroof mech is removed.

Yes, you can use very strong double sided tape or some sort of glue, not sure how easy it would be to remove it again afterwards though. If I delete my sunroof then the headlining is staying out as well.
