    Front Grille & Wing Mirrors

    Hi Guys,

I own a coupe, pulled my front grille off wanting to spray the silver edge black, being a newbie I understand i need to sand prime and then spray it right?
What exactly is prime just an 'undercoat', is that what it would be called in halfords or gaybay?

Can someone just run me through it

Also what do people think about spraying wing mirros black on my laser red coupe (see profile pic)

    Thanks in advance guys!!!

I dechromed my grill literally, if you can get a start on it on an outer edge the chrome will simply peel off!
Saves having to sand it down, especially as sand paper hardly touches the chome, and means the black will never start to flake off.
Then spray it with something like PlastiKote matt black or similar.

Also what do people think of spraying the wing mirrors black on laser red coupe?

            Gav tht would be great!

Dest how on earth did you get yours up like that? Heat it up?
Sanding it seems silly as i cant get on the inside without scratching up all the plastic.
It wont come off for *****

Look at the back of the grill, hopefully you will be able to find a spot where the chrome has started to lift from the plastic, if so, start from there!
If not, get a very sharp knife (I used a craft knife) and get it between the chrome and plastic.
Its hard to explain, but its not glued or fixed to the plastic atall! Once you get it started it all becomes clear.
If you start from the back outer edge and work round to the front you can get it to peel right round to front in one bit.
I worked round the whole thing in approx 1cm strips, sometimes you can work the blade between it and get bigger ones.
The whole thing only took me about an hour max.

I suppose the best way to describe it is when you find the end on some sticky tape, and slowly work the end bigger and bigger.
The pic above shows which way to peel it off, then once that bit sticking up was removed, get the knife under the edge nearest the outer edge and start again.

Its a lot easier than it sounds!

                Back Rings

How did you do the back rings - same process?

I was there on Sunday - parked up in some field somewhere... Didn't get there to quite late so had a quick look round before suggesting to the wife she take the kids round the park (not before she'd asked why my S2 looked so ***** compared to the other cars on show) I was also getting a bit paranoid about my youngest and his sun-block covered hands - that stuff leaves amazing hand prints on paintwork.

Anyway - I came me back a bit later for a chat and you'd gone.

                John
