Whether you do or don't or even have a Coupe, you might like to check this out.
At the rear of an Avant when the tail gate is open, you will see two metal loops at the floor level just above the rear bumper that are the receivers of the tailgate locks when the tail gate is shut.
When you look at these two items, if they are original you will probably see a hard plastic sleeve which is damaged.
Mine were and I felt that they ewer the cause of an insidious rattle/knocking coming from the rear of the Avant.
I replaced both receivers, you'll see the considerable difference between the old and new parts when placed side by side.
The two part numbers for the Avant are 4A9 827 517 B and 4A9 827 518 B.
I can't remember the cost as I bought them six months ago, but only got to fit them recently. Made a difference with less noise from the rear of the car. Still one or two squeaks from the carpeted rear boot side panels.
One of the next (endless) little jobs on my list.
sidebar note: It would be interesting to see Audi's records now and some time after this post to see how many sets are ordered before and after and if it makes any difference to the price in the future? Some may recall that apparently when it became known that a Seat front brake bracket was useful on an S2 when upgrading the brakes, the price of the bracket increased considerable given the sudden increase in demand.
Notwithstanding the above point, hope the main information on the bracket is of use to some Avant owners.
As mentioned Coupe owners should check their boots latching mechanisms also.
Kind regards.
