    Broken Elipsoid Headlight Lens!!!!!!

Absolutely gutted, after months of looking. I finally managed to buy a pair of elipsoid headlights for my 20v CQ. AFter an anxious wait they finally arrived only to find one of the lens has smashed. Obviously I'm going to progress it with the seller and postage company but I was wondering? I guess you can buy just the outer glass cover but no doubt big money from Audi, or does anyone have any other ideas?

You can buy the glass on it's own, it about £60-70 GBP here in the UK. The same thing happened to me but all the broken glass rattling around in the casing also trashed the chrome plating on the reflector

      my tuppence,

Buy a new glass from a local Audi dealer, hopefully you get it home intact , unless someone on here has a second-hand one?

Lost two headlight glasses from Vag Parts back in the day, the second one was to replace the first. Just gave up after the second one arrived broken.

Once you have the ellipsoids in with HIDs, you'll soon forget abut the grief.

      Good luck.

      Kind regards.

        Thanks

Thanks Guys, £60 to £70 doesnt sound horrendous, will check with Audi on Monday unless someone oh here has one or can recommend somewhere else. Out of interest, can anyone recommend a HID Conversion?

Thankfully, it was a couple of clean breaks and hasn't damaged the inside reflector!!!

Cheers, Are they a simple plug and play?

Also, don't suppose you know if the elipsiod headlights are a simple replacement for the normal coupe headlights? My CQ although a B3 has been slowly changed to a B4 now, my only remaining job is the washer blocks which are in the body shop being resprayed and then fitting the elipsoid headlights.

If your going from b3 front to b4 front the plugs on the back of the lights are different so you need to find a b4 in a breakers and cut the plugs off. I had to do this with my 20v quattro sport. The wire colours match up so can be cut/soldered in easily, then you just need to change a wire on the back of the stalks so the mains stay on with high beam rather than switching off.

Yeah, Ive already done the conversion on the headlights and the new elipsoid plu staright in. Well apart from the bloody broken one!

Whats the wire behind the stalk that needs changing? Just testing them and your right, main light gones off when you switch to main beam!

There's a pic i took in this thread when i did my 3b, cant say for sure that the wiring on your b3 will be the same.

My elipsoid dream is still alive! Audi still have the outer glass apparently only a few remaining. With discount (haggle), I got the glass for £51+vat and a new gasket although the old one looks fine for £7.50+vat.

Hopefully it will all fit etc, if anyone has done this before would appreciate any tips for fitting the new gasket and glass???

I guess this means all our cars will soon be writeoffs if we crack a headlight.

Flat bladed screw driver, pop off the all the metal clips that hold the glass in place, gently pry off the glass, remove the old seal, clean the new glass, ensure it is dry, carefully fit the seal into place in the headlight housing, fit glass and fit the metal clips.

I would avoid touching the chrome reflectors or trying to clean them as they have been know to de chrome very easily. Maybe somebody has a way of gently cleaning them?
