  • Drivers door wont open now

    Hi

    OK I have a 1994 Coupe 16v.

Iam in the situation where the cable has stretched on my door trigger so I cant open from the inside.

When just putting the card back on,I clipped a piece back into its socket which was related to the latch.

Anyway,I didnt pull the pin back up before closing the door and now its unusable.

My alarm/central locking was playing up also,so the central locking is unplugged leaving me f***ed there too.

    Any ideas??

    Thnx

Undo the latch housing and check inside, it's easy to put the end of the outer cable back in the wrong slot behind the housing. This stops the door openning and gives the impression the cable has stretched.

I'm not saying your cable hasn't stretched, just that I put my outer cable back in the wrong slot and then couldn't open the door.

At least it was easy to sort.........

            @ johne

When you say latch housing....do you mean undo the 2 allen bolts on the chrome latch?
Just want to be clear mate.Just read this again and it said something different to me on the second time of reading.
Or,do you mean the latch housing as in where the cable end hooks on to the trigger,as that end is knackered.I cant get the collar just back from the hook end to hold against any plastic at all.

I can sense a bodge coming on if its that end you mean.....

            Can you clarify matey??

There should be a little metal clip that holds the outer plastic cable end in place, or am I at the wrong end?

                .

This is what I was trying to clarify mate.

There is one of those on my cable yes.The thing is,it no longer attaches to anything,as the plastic it once sat against is broken. For starters,I can do a temp fix on this.It will get full leather at some point.

Hope John doesn't mean the latch end.One of the allen bolts has started to round off.Dont like doing this, but may have to hammer a larger allen bit in there and turn.ahem

                    .

                    Ah! Thanks,didnt think of that!

So,I can now get in and out of the car from the outside handle.

I've had the door card off,and the cable has come unhooked from the non-trigger end.
Where should she hook up to?
I've also found a clip in the bottom of the door which has come off.Its the kind of clip which secures a throttle cable to the body on a 2.0 if you catch my drift.
Would that be the clip which holds the door release cable to the trigger or perhaps other end??
