A couple of weeks ago I went over to Cannock and bought four doors from a 16v Avant, for the very reasonable price of 80 quid for the four, to replace the rust spotted, laquer peeled ones on my S2 Avant.
They're in laser red so no problems there and I though all I would need to do is swap over the door handles, trim piece and rubber door bottom trim. However, I've noticed when fitting the passenger side rear that the S2 door has a channel down the rear of the door that accepts a draught excluder strip. On the 16v door the channel isn't there and there is just a triangular rubber gusset piece up by the window.
Here's the 16v door

And here is the S2 door

Anybody any idea why the S2 was fitted with this extra seal on the door? Was it intended to keep wind noise down at the sort of speeds the S2 can do. More to the point, do I need to drill out the spot welds on the channel and transfer it over onto the 16v doors so that I can fit the S2 draft strip?
Cheers
