    Vinyl car wrap

If you have an old car like ours in need of a paint job to get rid of all the age related scuffs and chips etc, but you also plan for a vinyl wrap as well, is there any cheaper-quicker way of painting rather than going for a full proper paint job?

Or there is no such thing as the above and regardless of the wrap you will still have to do a normal proper paint job?

    Thanks

Plasti dip is the new thing. Look it up, pretty impressive and now also available with gloss

Quick look up on google shows only used on home and industrial areas. Not cars... hmmm

Edit: just seen a u tube video of a white s4 going to matt black within half an hour!
What seems a bit intruiging is the fact that it seems to be able to Peel of fairly easily. So what happens if you take it for a wash?

Yes, some people will mask up the car, scuff up and blow over to freshen a car up for sale.

However it is quick and cheap.

Ha, yes saw that as well.

But can plasti dip be used on top of paint that is 15years old?

this is a pic from this past weekend: (do note that the front bumper is not wrapped but painted matte black and doesn't perfectly match)

I saw it today at lunch and it looks just like it did the day he finished, he used the 3M 1080 wrap, paid less then 300 USD for all of it with a heat gun and squeegees and such, it was his first time wrapping anything and him doing it by himself in his garage it took about 40 hours total.

But why would you want to do this!! Looks crap when it's all pealing away. True it's cheap. Fair enough I think Matt black would be the only decent option

Plastidip is a bad option but vinyl wraps can last 7-10.years and peel off when ypu are done. It costs considerably less than a paintjob.

Which is why I still think a wrap is better. Its just that to look good in a wrap, you need to worth out all paint blemishes. So you end up paying for a paint. Hence the question in regards to a more simplified paint job to cover the blemishes that would allow h llthe wrap to look good

You dont need to worry about paint problems, but yes dents and such will show, the paint surface itself doesn't really matter.

I'm with Dave on this one, wraps are much better then plasti-dip.

Wrap is very cheap and good looking if you a have a pair of decent hands.
The company next door does wrapping. I saw many beauty lately...

Unfortunately I don't have any pic about the blue BRUSHED METAL BLUE STEEL but it was soooo nice. I think I will do my 3rd CQ with it.
