sunroof retracting?

How far should the sunroof retract on a 94 audi 80 avant tdi, mine only goes halfway, as did the one on my previous avant. Is this the way they are? Seems strange that it doesn't fully retract.

It should go almost all of the way in.
Check the micro-switches on the motor - they are what tells it when to stop retracting, so the motor might be indexed incorrectly so it thinks its fully open when its not

I've been battling this the last few days, sometimes the cables go and the teeth in the motor can't push it further back, or it needs grease down the back of the runners. In my case, I need to replace the whole cartridge with the cables in... Right pain as you have to drop the headlining out!
