Coupe B Pillar Trim Removal and Carbon Cover Fitting
Collapse
This is a sticky topic.

- OK, so here we go.
- Old, slightly tired trims.
- Remove the door seal by starting about 6 inches from the B pillar and pull from the inside out, on the lower side.
- Follow the trim along and carefully remove it, then start removing it down the B pillar.
- At the base of the existing trim, there is a slightly stubborn section, remove this by pushing it down and away from the B pillar trim, until it pops out.
- Slide the seal out the way.
- You can now see the 4 rivets that hold the trim in place.
- Drill out the rivets - you might have to use a hammer and chisel if they start to spin.
- Once all the rivets are removed, gently pry the trim from the bottom.
- Push and rotate the trim at teh base, towards the front of the car, to clear the rear window seal.

- Remove the trim and push the dead rivets through the B pillar (you may have to hit the with a punch and hammer, or remove the sticking out section of the rivet).
- If you've scuffed the paint, make sure you stick some etch primer on there with a small paint brush or cotton bud.
- I removed my trims, as over the years, they had started to corrode. I removed this with a chisel and then gave it all a good going over with a wire brush on a drill.
- Rub over with some coarse scotchbrite and then a clean with some thinners.
- Quick coat of etch primer on the bare metal.
- Then apply some adhesive. I used windscreen adhesive on the advice of Aron.
- Put the carbon cover on, line it up as you like and secure with low tack masking tape. Mine preferred to sit with the top overlapping, so the base section didn't line up by 2-3mm.
- Let it set up for a bit, then to the car!
- Put the top section in and tuck the carbon under the gutter trim, then slide the base across and carefully slip the trim in to the rubber seal.

- Remove the trim and push the dead rivets through the B pillar (you may have to hit the with a punch and hammer, or remove the sticking out section of the rivet).
-
- Slide the base of the trim to the rear of the car, until it's in place. Then make sure that the front piece of the trim is flush with the B pillar.
- Pop the interior trim in to the B pillar trim, if you've not removed it.
- Make sure that the holes line up!
- Get the riveter out and pop it all back together. Mine was better aligned at the top, so I started there and worked my way down.
- Then it's time to put the seal on...
- Start with the tricky piece at the base of the B pillar trim, and then start to pop the trim in up the B pillar. This takes a bit of time and patience (!) but if you press the front section towards the rear of the car and the rear section in to the car, this should work.
- Align the corner and then start on the top piece. If you try and get the innermost section in to the grove first then press the outer section firmly with your thumbs, this works. Use some washing up liquid to lubricate it, if required
- All back together and looking sweet as
