    DILEMA: What would you do

Ok, so i keep coming back to this every few months, its becoming more frequent

Cards on the table....I love this car, I've had it 13years and mechanically it's been well loved and had an engine rebuild about 18months ago by DJones and is running sweetly, despite (still) being on a homefry.

However, cosmetically, 225k miles it taking it's toll. The roof is severely in need of a spray but there are several other areas which need attention too, mainly due to some paint in a previous life which is aging/colouring at a different rate.

From a distance, the car looks great still and does get comments but no getting away from the fact it needs sorting......or selling

    From a distance

    The reality....

    Roofline

    Paint aging

    Nearside wing

    more paint match fun

It's being used regularly, in fact with kids older and less prone to projectile vomit, we are using it again as a family which is great, has taken us to Spa and the Ring in May without missing a beat and its perfect for a long weekend away.

I just not sure I can justify £3k to get it properly sprayed (nor find that kind of cash at this moment in my life either!)

What would you do....? Options as I see it are:

    1. Take the hit and find the money somehow to get it done
    2. Decide that after 13years time for a change and sell or part it out
    3. Find a bare shell and get that painted and transfer over
    4. Find a URQ shell and port to that instead to scratch an itch which remains
    5. Enjoy the car and stop worrying about cosmetics

    Thoughts?

It'd be option 5 for me.

Number 5 or if you have a garage, you could always do all the prep work yourself, would make a respray cheaper

feel free to direct them my way. My key item on any home move (thought we'd done it recently) is a double garage with office on top. For now single garage full of the cr*p a family acquires, plus more coupe seats than I care to think of

I'm a 5 myself even though I nitpick a lot, I live with the little scuffs I have here and there (3 ). It is silver though so it isn't as visible

I would tend to go with option 5. But then again looking at my coupe I would say that
Been in an almost identical dilemma myself albeit with a coupe that's worth a lot less than an S2 ! Everytime I come up with reasons to break or sell I think of reasons to keep and soldier on with this !

Sorry I'm no help at all
For what this cost me so far I could have bought an S2

I was going to live with mine as being ok (when I eventually get it running ok) and following everyone elses option of your number 5. HOWEVER, a few months ago when someone ruined the rear bumper on my car I took the plunge and got a whole load of paintwork sorted alla t the same time so now all that is left to paint is the passenger side and the bonnet! It is possible to find a good body shop to do bits and bobs or take the plunge and get the whole thing done....

Actually put it this way, answer the follwoing questions:

Do you smile when you drive it?
                      Is it mechanically ok?
Is it still fun to drive?
is it still comfy to drive and be in?
Can it still beat lots of modern cars?
Are you going to replace it with something you will love the drive of as much?

(I bet you say yes to everything apart from the last question. if this is the case, enjoy it as is and save for a bit. After all, you dont look at the outside of it whilst you drive it. Also if its immaculate body wise then you will be scared to use it as you currently do.

4 would be a very good option but parts are really getting hard to come by for the UR.

It really boils down to if you sold it what would you buy in it's place?

I have the same issue, see my project thread... POST 73

There is no easy answer, it's like gambling, the more you put in the more you have to put in or cut your losses...

If you have unlimited funds the house loses, so maybe that IS the answer!

PS If you find the answer please let me know...

just updated the first post with some pics to illustrate the issues...

Glad to see I'm not the only one struggling here.

@Jamo - yeah the part issue is a bit of a headache on the UR and forsure probably not the cheap answer BUT, its definately something I have wanted to do for years. In fact the whole S2 ownership spawned from originally hunting for a UR
