6. take some stuff and clothes , full tank of fuel and come here in Croatia. why ?
because I can fix FULL paint job for your car (with everithing) for 750- 800 €
and you can also earn some money.. 100€ (take 01E to UK )
If you cant afford to paint it, swapping the running gear into an UR is crazy, as if you want that paint to be good you will be spending many times more! Also if you cant work on the S2, where are you going to work on the S2-Ur swap?
Keep it, and keep on top of it as you can afford it.
Just make sure no rot gets hold of the rear arches etc. The front wings are bolt on, but as Alex says can be saved without to much work.
You wont get much for the car, not enough to replace it with something the same/better.
Im also going option 1 but im happy at the mo to live with option 5 and I have a crumpled wing and dented door and rear arch from a run in with a Rover 75 while trying to run a cat over
If you would have been in Romania you wouldn't have had this problem. Painting a car here, professionally is maximum 1000 GBP.
I'm shocked about the 3000 GBP price for a repaint of the car.
So here's another option, plan a vacation in Romania, for 2 weeks, spend 1000 GBP on the repaint, 1000 GBP on the vacation and you also save 1000 GBP
#1. Take it to a few body shops for some estimates. Where you can look at their work standards, see where your money will be spent. Then you can chew #5 over, until you decide on which one, you'll find the money somehow.
Worst decisions I've ever made was selling two cars. One I owned for 8 yrs with my Farther owning it for 5 before me. The other was another long time possession. Signing the log book to change owners was a bad, bad move.
Id say option 5 now and go for option 1 when money allows. Im in a similar dilemma and cant afford the respray cost of the whole car so im biding my time and sorting out mechanical bits for now.
I have a set of front wings to replace the ones that are starting to bubble and new front bumper ready so when I can afford to do it I have the parts I require, but still keep toying with just getting bonnet, bumper front wings and door strips
I did option 1 just over 4 years ago and now the paint is just as bad as it was before I started. I took the car back to the original painter who charged £2700 for the work they did. And they said that they would rectify the work for me soon so we will see what the outcome is.
Top and tail is make do with option #5 just treat the bits as best you can to try and stop the rot....
I now have the facility to paint in house so as when all the mechanicals, interior, extras ect are all finished I will paint it again.
Honda CBR 1100XX Blackbird Turbo....undergoing major changes.....
S2 Coupe... bit easier off the line...
'03 ZX12-R daily hack.... lots of nice bolt ons...
We are all gonna get nailed with this scenario one day as far as old cars are concerned. We spend so much time on them and more still enjoying them, that you feel inclined to shell out on more love.
Trouble is, from my experience, decent resprays are hard to come by. The best jobs never last as long as the originals, so as Tonks says, a few years later it can end up looking a bit shabby again.
As long as the mechanical side is spot on, keep the tin worm at bay as best you can and enjoy your boost while Super is still on sale!
I have decided on mine to leave it be at the moment and eventually find a nice she'll maybe a sedan (it's an avant mine) and when the the time comes for it to become a weekend car then transplant everything and refurbish everything.
