  • Best paint for wheel arches and underside

    Evening all,

Quick question for you all regarding best paint/protection for wheel arches and underside of the car.

Basically i have refurb'd the wishbones, subframes, struts etc with POR15. Looks like damn good gear so will hopefully last for many years to come!!

I have also repaired several areas of the underside where the original factory underseal had peeled using the same stuff, but now i have a rather patchy looking floor pan! It's been annoying me now for a while so want to finish of the remainder of underside and wheel arches so it all looks and neat and tidy.

My question is should i apply POR15 Chassis Black on to the original wheel arches and underbody or is it more suited to metal painted surfaces?

I've been looking at Hammerite underseal with added waxoil, would this be good enough to paint on top of the rubbery original underseal, or is there something more suitable i should use?

As always guys, thanks in advance!!

    Cheers
    Gordon

I like dinitrol. Its a light brown waxy substance that still remains clear ( doesn't hide rot ) I applied 2 litres of it with an airline. its messy but it gets on to all the nook and crannies..

Hi. All rot has been dealt with, my reason is purely aesthetic. Wasn't sure what paint would be best suited to be applied on top of the original rubbery sealer? Would I be able to pressure wash dinitrol or does it remain tacky? Cheers.

Its waxy top coat. No it wont wash off. It will wipe off if required with elbow grease and turps.
I like it as a final coat which doesnt hide problems like black waxoil.

Ah right ok, ill check that stuff out. I wonder if por15 chassis black will adhere to the original sealer. Has anyone tried this? Ive got some spare so if it will bond to that surface I guess I should be using it.

This is by far the best paint I have used for under cars. http://www.rust.co.uk/products/categ...FSgUwwodb38ARg

3M08800 is very similar to the rubbery OE underbody seal, I used it on my coupe. Its expensive, but you get what you pay for
