    Windscreen Replacement

Good afternoon all. So on Friday I found a possible cause of the wetness on the inside of my S2. I was driving down the motorway applying generous amounts of screen wash whilst cleaning the screen.

Out of the corner of my eye I spotted drips coming in and landing on the passenger seat. Thinking it was from the open sunroof I thought no more of it until I spotted bubbles between the A pillar trim and windscreen.

I had spotted when buying the car that the screen was looking a bit ropey in that area and that the bond appeared to be a bit on the piss. It's def not the original screen and looks like it's been put in by an idiot and is now leaking as it is de bonding down the top half of the passenger A pillar.

Anyone know anyone who fits screens? I would look to buy a new one. Autoglass ahve quoted £375 fitted, which doesn't seem too bad but i'm always up for saving money. It does have a couple of chips so hopefully one will break more but in the mean time any suggestions?

      Yeah it's an S2 coupe.

Trouble is screen isn't actually broken. I know what can be done about that but also trying to avoid the claim if possible. Know it doesn't effect the no claims but still comes up as a claim as did a screen in my A6 last year when it cracked.

At 375 that's not Audi glass. Expect Pilkington and a leak or poor fit

        Btdt with autoglass

There was a lovely frost in Banbury this morning. You should have gone outside with a boiling kettle and got involved with those stone chips in order to get a freebie or a cheapo one done on insurance.

Ha ha good plan although it may have resulted in a lot of boiling water on the passenger footwell.

Use a heatgun instead (not that I have experience of this)

Just wanted to avoid adding another windscreen claim to my tally, but pretty sure it will always end up cheaper to claim on insurance then pay for it myself.

I have Pilkington in my coupe fitted by rac windscreens a few years back fits well and no issues. However I was adamant that I wanted it done at their premises by their most experienced fitter. I waited while he did it, it took about three hours, not an easy job at all....

                          Cheers

gotcha - I had auto winscreens take 3 attempts when i had mine last done due to poor seal on nearside top of the glass

Coupe screen is a real PITA. Here's what I would do:
Smash it with a rock and get it replaced through your insurance at home. Remove the A-pillar trims etc yourself so they don't **** that up, that's the time consuming bit. Then when they come round all they have to do is cut out the old screen and bond in the new one - as they won't be against the clock they can take their time to do it correctly. Make sure they put 3 coats of the etch primer on the screen edge to stop it delaminating and going cloudy.
Then you can refit all the trims with the correct mastic not adhesive as the "professionals" often do.
