    Central locking woes

My central locking now has a mind of its own, and will lock at will. Sometimes when i shut the boot, or shut the door, even driving along it will lock. Any ideas? i did search but cannot find anything relevant..

Sounds like either a faulty door activator switch (probable as they are more prone to moisture), or the control unit/pump (possible), or a short circuit/earth problem (most unlikely). Also it could be related to the immobiliser, i am not sure but i think the later cars had some sort of diagnostics on the Factory fitted alarm/immobiliser.

Don't leave your keys in the car! I'm not sure about the avant, but in the sedan, the loom that goes to the lights on the boot lid (reverse lights and rear fog) will crack. The wires inside will all short circuit and cause the car to lock, unlock, arm the alarm, disarm it, fry fuses, etc. Try turning on your rear fog and open the log and squeeze and pinch the loom in various areas to see if the light turns off or flickers or if it locks your car.
I honestly have NO CLUE if this will work for you, but it's worth a shot!

I've got a spare brand new pump if you need one. No use for mine as I have IR locking.

ok, after further investigation it seems the central locking will lock the car when, a) the boot is shut down, and b) when i take it out of reverse gear

              any ideas?

ok, this is getting annoying. it will now lock/arm alarm when i remove the ignition key. not ideal when your still in the car.
i have checked the loom that comes out of the rear end into the boot, and if i touch it or wiggle it then it will activate the c/l and alarm, so im guessing this is the root of the problem. whats the best way of sorting this, im thinking im going to have to look inside this loom and replace or fix the wires that are shorting ? out .

Greenm3 had almost this exact problem.....turned out it was a faulty bonnet lift sensor on a messily installed alarm.....dunno if he could shed some more light on this....IIRC....he locked the keys in the car at the garage when he took it down to have it looked at but the RAC were more than helpful asusual, a neat little trick with a baloon bag or something.....im sure he will know more...
