I wonder if anyone has looked at getting the "U" shaped metal runner made out of aluminum and retro fitting on the existing trim? Would this work as the problem is the mild steel rusting?

      Hi,

I have a friendly guy at my local TPS.I know him pretty well,as I've been buying parts off them for years.
Have you tried your local TPS?

Just ring your local and collect from them... Unless you know a garage they can be sent to.

I had thought of doing this and asked a friend to see if he could machine something. But he came back to me and said it would be too tricky to machine!

I reckon you could get a cheap tool made and get then section extruded just like window manufuacturers do. I bet there is a little shop in the Black Country which could do this for a run of a couple of hundred metres of aluminium. The probelm is can you fix it to the trim?

A good quality silicone based adhesive like Sikaflex 291 would be fine, it's used very widely in the marine industry.
