    My 'not so' black trim

Any ideas on where I can pick up the lower half of the plastic trim (coloured black) which runs along the side of the car and the rear bumber. Does anyone know if this can be bought separately, or do you have to buy the entire trim including colour coded top half?

Ive tried everything bar black shoe polish - back to black etc, to get rid of the white residue and blacken it up again.

If Im looking at second hand parts, Im not sure its worth the hassle as they are likely to not be too much better.

Got mine from VAG parts for the doors on my coupe, as I remember fairly cheaply too.

I'm pretty sure you can buy this seperate from VAG Parts.

There was a couple of threads regarding this knocking around the forum, also believe i Audiman has done this?

I am not sure if this will work - but on some cars - if you use a hair dryer on the faded black plastic it brings the blackness back

Try the Autoglym "green gel" aka Bumper Care, put it on a couple of days in a row to build up the colour back to the original, should get you back to blackish within a week.

This should work. A paint/body repair man told me of this once. It get rid of the oxidisation on the top.

                      Hi Jamie,

The side trims are available from VAG parts and I think I paid about £75 - £100 for a set of four: both doors and both rear lower quater panels. Easy to fit - 20 min job. When you get them give us a shout if you need any fitting tips.

Rear bumper is bad news - it is all one moulding with a "smooth" upper area that is painted and the "rough" lower section that is black. (or in your case grey )

I have used Autoglym plastic and rubber trim gel and that works very well. You will have to regularly condition it for a while before it keeps its black look, but it should go black again after a few weeks....

                      HTH

                      Cheers,

                      Steve.

Thanks for the tips. I will basically invest in rubber trim gel, borrow the missus' hairdryer and get to work. Ill let you know the results. If not, VAG parts it is. Unfortunately the main discolouration is on that rear section - whole new bumber?...tempting.

I would be surprised if you need a new bumper. Be careful, I had mine done on the insurance after a neighbour hit it and the whole bill was about £600!!

Youi should be fine with the Autoglym.
